Great Central Railway Steam Gala 6-10-2018.

A cracking gala as anticipated with a theme: 70 years since the 1948 locomotive exchange trials... with the addition of freight trains, and a very intensive timetable indeed, including a very frequent passenger service with goods trains and Travelling Post Office demonstrations. We thought its one not to miss, even in the rain and colder temperatures (that as I always say make for great atmospheric effects!). With two guest locomotives we looked back to the 1948 locomotive exchange trials at the beginning of the British Railways era, with Bulleid light pacific 34092 City of Wells and Thompson B1 1264 and the GCR's own Modified Hall 6990 Witherslack Hall which ran during the trials on this very line, with up to 8 additional steam locos and a DMU shuttle from the home fleet made it a busy day. As you can see we had a few pints+ of amber water!! and visited a few Health shops on the way home (not) Enjoy, we certainly did, if not a bit too much, or did we!, hahaaaa. Also at one point a good chunk of the old Gloucester Peak Army road show seemed to be there, after all... for roster reasons the SVRly wasn't the place for us that weekend... Enjoy.
